BENJAMIN FRANKLIN: A TESTAMENT TO THE POWER OF HABITS

That’s one of the many unique names he is associated with to commemorate his greatness. How much is expected from a man to do in his one lifetime?
Well, if you aspire to be the next Benjamin Franklin, you got to be a successful entrepreneur, a remarkable inventor, a significant scientist, an acknowledged writer, a revolutionary politician, founding father of the most powerful country in the world and an inspiration for generations to come. Here is the life of the great man in a nutshell:

  • He was born in the year 1706 in Boston to a soap maker as tenth of the seventeen children.
  • His education was stopped at the age of 10 due to lack of money, he made his habit of reading as his ultimate source of learning.
  • At the age of 15, he joined his elder brother’s newspaper company as an apprentice printer.
  • Since he wasn’t allowed to write for the newspaper, he picked up a pseudonym and began sliding his letters into the office secretly to get published. His articles were a smash hit and people still didn’t know who was writing them.
  • When he was revealed as the writer, he garnered a fair deal of popularity which put him in a rift with his brother. As a result he fled to Philadelphia.
  • He was broke, starved and messy in Philly until he made a lady friend who got him a job as a printer. He did that so well that he gained the attention of the local governor. The governor promised him helping set his own business and sent him to London. The governor ditched and Benjamin again started taking printer’s job.
  • He returned to Philadelphia, put all his money to his own business and took it to a resoundingly profitable level. He recklessly published his works and became a reputed author.
  • He retired from his business and writing career in his 40’s and turned to science.
  • Benjamin had learnt everything on his own and he went on to do some cutting edge inventions such as lightening rod, Franklin stove, glass armonica, swimming fins and bifocal glasses.
  • His made significant contributions in the field of electricity and was the first person to label the positive and negative nature of charges and discovered the principle of conservation of charge.
  • He did further more works in fields like wave theory, oceanography and thermal science.
  • Already of immense fame, Franklin established his interest in politics and joined the American Revolution.
  • Thirteen colonies of North America were under the control of Monarchs of Great Britain. Franklin along with revolutionaries like Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, John Adams and others led the political upheaval.

He represented America in numerous gatherings and foreign affairs and was an important strategist in the planning and development of the new nation. Thus, Benjamin Franklin is hailed one of the most remarkable personalities in the history of mankind.
